September is the in-between Of fall delights and summer green Behind my thoughts are eyes that wait To march right through October’s gate The sky is clear with “autumness” September cool, October crisp The geese are poised on nearby ponds By fields of cinnamon and bronze The voices sing in chilling winds Of purple mums and scarlet limbs Would that September’s piercing cold Were sculptured in October’s mold Elizabeth Santos |
