Until I Loved You

Until I loved you
I had never known the depth of love
For love has filled the spaces deep inside
I never knew were there
Nor would they ever have a purpose to unveiled their faces
To the warming sun and passion’s breath the air

Until I loved you
I had never known of pain
What I once thought to be a dagger’s blow
Was just a rose’s thorn
That pierced my skin and not the very life
Of which my love was so intimately born

Until I loved you
I had never known of bliss
For love had never wrenched such tears of joy
From out my deepest well
Then from the selfsame pool unleash a thousand more
In ways that bitter tears of sorrow swell

Since I have loved you
I will never love again
Nor live another moment of passion's
most exquisite form
For sentiment so pure cannot repeat itself
Nor by chance or by design be so innocently born

Liz, this is so beautiful. You know how much I love your poetry? And, in this case, I can actually relate to what you wrote. I have felt and thought the very same way you have described in this poem. It brought back memories.
