Esmerlda was the queen of cats and the queen of cats was she. She lived far away in a southern clime on an island in south sea. She lived in a jungle land fierce with trees as tall as could be. It didn't matter whether you liked her or not she'd invite you in for tea. For Esmerlda was the queen of cats, the queen of cats was she It didn't matter whether she liked you or not she'd invite you in for tea. Her position was strong in jungleland for she descended from royalty true. She ruled that land with a strong firm hand, her bloodlines where very blue. And therefore few challenged her stand, from her strength they quickly flew. But someone fair and bold entered the land someone who nobody knew. For Esmerlda was the queen of cats, the queen of cats was she. It didn't matter whether she liked you or not she'd invite you in for tea. For Tigerlilac had come from distant place she'd come to take a stand. to challenge the established rule with her sulky, errant cat band. They had no respect for local ways, they wished to rule the land, and in their catly ways they wished to get royalty canned. Now what can you do with these two mean groups, yes trouble it must come. Yes, it was inevitable the tension would build, and there were some that silently moved away. The cleaver would hire some larger chum to defend their rights in the coming fights from which they could not run. Now the day came by chance in a public place of a cool market day. Each group was there in the market square strutting in courtly way. Shopping for goods like fresh dried mice for which they were willing pay. Tension was there thick in the air, the quiet shurely wouldn't stay. For Esmeralda was the queen of cats, the queen of cats was she It didn't matter whether she liked you or not she'd invite you in for tea. More on the conflict between Tigerlilac and Esmerlda to come. My wife bought me a poetry book with a poem by Edward Lear (1812-1888) called the Jumbles which I dearly love. As I am searching for a poetic style—being quite new to writing poetry, because I am soon to retire and need a hobby-- I am trying out different styles to see where I fit. But now it is 3 am and I have taken one of my sleeping pills and need to be at a “power breakfast” at 8 am tomorrow. Hey, I might just not make it. More later. |

How captivating is this story! You caught the cats' character very well! You write beautifully and one would not say that you are a beginner. This has a dynamic flow and rhythm. Enjoyed it. Love, Margherita |
