pencil art by Janet K. Brennan, Sugar Pine Lake-2008

As The Oak Drops its Red
Shadows grow
while old prickly stings my heels
longer as the day moves on
There is a change in the wind
as the oak drops its red

I have been here before and
will visit again
Lover of life, those shadows
Growing longer in the change

No stranger to fall
Nor the tears that it brings
Wet cleansing the night
for the morn is much clearer
when the trees shed their leaves

You were my season,
your warmth my muse
Even as shadows grow longer
and cool nights bring ghosties,
old prickly leaves its mark
on the back of my heels
And I dance, I change

~~

Keep dancing away! ~ This was so beautifully described with messages between the lines, intertwined with the seasons change. Lingering....

Wonderful

This is absolutely gorgeous Jan and I must say one of my favourites by you.  I think it must have been written for a very special and heartfelt moment.

I perceive a unique and wonderful symbiosis between you and the natural events you evoke so vividly here, dear Janet.

And your drawing is equally stunning.

Thanks fellow poets:

Yes, Kat...a very special moment and I am blessed to have many of them.  Margrit...You are right, for the most part , I am one with nature and am happiest when I am surrounded by it.  I believe that all of life is a metaphor and we only need to look at the simplest blade of grass to see it!

Jan,

I am totally captivated by your drawing that accompanies this poem.  I love the poem but I covet the art.  Beautiful.  Simply wonderful.

Jan, I believe that when we are creative, that we are aligning ourself with Our Creator. With your art and poetry, I would say that your are aligned very well, indeed!

Thanks guys happy that you liked it.

Yes, I am always most comfrotable when I am in the woods or by the sea or a mountain.  I have been that way all of my life, it just helps me to center, which I sometimes have difficulty doing. (lol) Not that I do not want to be around the hustle and bustle of the city and people, just am happier when the land is around me.
