Fall is already showing its presence, much earlier this year. The squirrels and chipmunks have been very busy harvesting. No robins in sight for over a month, they left a long time ago seeking more suitable habitat. Summer barely arrived a month ago yet appears to be departing. September is still quite wonderful. The moon was high in the sky last night in all its splendid glory peeking down upon the garden, seeming to listen to the crickets serenade. The wet cool summer meant few mosquitos, so no dragonflies hovered about the yard. A handful of resident toads hide by day amongst the rocks and stones strategically placed to keep plant roots warm as the stones release whatever daytime warmth they gathered in storage. I love Autumn color changes, and hope to see leaves changing to brilliant golds, oranges and reds before my journey West in early October. But Mother Nature will do as she must, not abide by my calendar wishes. Meanwhile, the sky is gorgeous on clear nights and it seems the moon reaches down to embrace me under the September night-skies. All is as it should be.... |

"All is as it should be" ... In Nature's embrace you surrender so beautifully to what is, dearest Kacy. You create such wonderful, tangible harmony, like in deep meditation. Kacy this is a lovely piece. I especially love the toads hiding by day. Last night when I put out the bin of recyclables I heard a tiny kittenish purring sound. A little guttural sound. The toads? Or little frogs? I hear so many sounds I have not yet been able to interpret,or decipher. I know there are so many strange and different sounds coming from frogs. A tiny quack of a duck is one; the moo of a cow is another. This one I have not figured out as yet. I hear sounds at night that sound like cats in distress and wonder.I think it is another frog sound? best to you Kacy, keep writing and letting us know your where abouts. jo |

THANKING EACH OF YOU! I love Autumn colors. Maybe it's because I was born mid-November? I remember even in Southern California where I grew up we had a few fall color changes, but nothing like the northeast often gets, though last year Autumn was somewhat drab. I will be relocating to the Oregon coast the first week of October, so will see some fall colors in the local forests. But it will be lots of salty air, driftwood and blowing sands for me. I love it! My daughter will be stationed with a Coast Guard unit at Tillamook/Garibaldi Station after she graduates basic training the end of September. Garibaldi and Tillamook are barely 15-30 minutes drive to my beloved Rockaway Beach, my Oregon 'Nessie'! Maybe it's time to repost last July's Nessie poem.  |

(huggies) Oh Kacy, this is a most beautiful, attentive reflection on Mother Nature's slow but sure change in wardrobe, my friend! (smiles) Is it just me, by the way, or is it taking the leaves on the trees to change color almost an entire month longer compared to last year? Because I remember around my birthday last year that most trees already had leaves go brown and blanket the soils, yet only a small handful of trees have changed color so far this season!  This is gorgeous, my friend, here's a stein of E-fresh-squeezed apple cider for you, on the house, yay! I really enjoyed all of the images aand sights in your poem. You seem to be very familiar with all the signs of the changes of the seasons in your area. Many people miss these little milestones. I especially enjoyed the description of the toads as being 'resident toads'. |

I'd like the warm days to stick around a bit too, but am enjoying the crispness in the air and the sudden color changes beginning to appear. Thanks for the warm drinks! It was chilly and rainy here this morning, but that didn't keep me indoors. Just had to put a sturdy hooded windbreaker on and go down to the docks and watch the sky change. I'm not going for the sunset walk tonight though, as I twisted my hip/lower back moving a box and now I look like some ol lady hobbling down the street! (I'm not old yet in my mind LOL) drgngrl, I just moved from PA to OR three weeks ago, so the new imagery will vary a bit.  |

What an absolute delight it was to read your last response - right up to, but NOT including the part where you twisted your hip. I am thrilled that you are doing so well. Perhaps it would be a good idea to check out the hip, especially if it hasn't got decidedly better since you twisted it - yes, I know - the expense, but it will be more expensive if it persists. Either way, I am glad you are treating it gently. By the way, I enjoyed the walk down to the docks with you immensely (hope you didn't mind me going along too), but wow, it was a lot more chilly for me than it was for you, being from sunny South Africa! May I join you on the next one too, please? Owl |

Hi Di! The hip is fine, it was just a minor tweaking. Earlier we had gale force winds and driving rain. It has settled a bit. I might venture out, warm windbreaker with hood and gloves on. Even short walks are invigorating. I've never been one to hibernate, no matter the weather, but am more cautious now when powerful winds are blowing. Trees and other things often become airborne missiles, LOL, and I'm not so fast at dodging them these days. How are things in Durbin? I will email you later today. |

I'm glad the hip is getting better. If it doesn't get completely better in a reasonable amount of time, I hope you will have it checked out. Shoof! Is the wind THAT bad there? We don't have anything like that here. I am glad you are cautious about it, then. Owl |
