The Sandman

As night begins to raise its head
And tired children go to bed
Mothers breathe a gentle sigh
And start to sing a lullaby

It’s then the little Sandman creeps
Through windows with his magic sleeps
To fill the children’s heads with dreams
Of starry nights and moonlight beams

He stills their tired and weary cries
By sprinkling stardust in their eyes
That sends them sleeping right away
To dreamland where the fairies play

From the land of Nod he travels far
Pulled along on a magic star
By flying horses made of flames
Winken and Blinken are their names

You can see his shooting star at night
As it passes through the sky so bright
Then worn out Mothers softly grin
And wonder where the Sandman’s been

Don't you think a book is in order so you can share your poems with the children of the world! ~ and for we big children, as well!

I always love your poems, Stephen. This one is adorable and it made me laugh thinking back to when my daughter was small and I innocently mentioned the Sandman while trying to get her to go to sleep and scared the daylights out of her. I don't know what she thought the Sandman was but she didn't like him much.
