It's funny how stories begin around a poker table a man voices that he is going through a divorce and I ask him if they tried counseling and they're friends still... with kids and the counseling ended when he couldn't pay for the 2nd instillation and the man next to me asks if I'm a counselor and I bring up I've been a minister a counselor from time to time with a theology and psych degree delving deeper he inquires what church where and when I look down and say it's been a long time... since then the game goes on and I'm doing well people trying to figure out my lucky charm and what's my tell the little black box just a pipe the case a pouch and everyone asks what's in it, what's in it my reply is my father's ash and everyone laughs and the fellow jolly says, his father was a mouse and this must be his house for they do not know the inside joke my father was a player of renoun and note and further still the memory clear from some odd 30 years when we would awake or hear something break and something was missing from the kitchen we would ask him was it you the answer reply so swift, and so sly "it must've been that mouse" that scurries around the house "ask me no questions... and I'll tell you no lies" |
