The Clown
by Linda L. Dowd

It’s sad to see a laughing clown.
Who’s smiling with unhappy eyes.
There is a face that wears a frown,
Behind the paint and clown disguise.

He wears his heart upon his sleeve,
And lives in world of make-believe.
His smiling face belies his woe.
But life goes on and so must show.

I loved this poem!  So sad...  Written very well.  The only thing I can see wrong (and I promise you, I don't pretend to know much about form) is the rhyme scheme.... I thought it was supposed to be abab ccdd, but I'm probably mistaken.  Anyway, Fantastic poem, and the picture goes really well

CC ~ You're absolutely correct! I have now remedied it!

Thank you for pointing that out to me!

I'm glad you enjoyed my poem.

Hi, RainbowQueen! Love your name!

Yes, that pic is perfect! I had used it on another poem some time ago, and after writing this one I thouoght it would work well! I'm pleased that you think so too!

I wish I knew the name of the artist so that I could give him/her their due credit.

Nice to meet you!

Hugs to the Clown !! And hugs to you We all are like the clown at times.  And we all must go on with the show, but God is there to change that frown into a smile !

Good morning, Tinker Bell!

One can fake a smile with their lips, but it is their eyes that tell the story. I suppose that we have all put a haapy face on in the attempt to hide the sadness within. However, those who take the time to look in their eyes will see the pain and sorrow.

Thank you for the warm, thought-filled reply.

BC ~

Have we not all done that at one time or another. ~ Usually to spare the feelings of others. However, those who care enough to look beyond the facade and into our eyes, see the anguish that lies within.

Giving you a genuine smile with twinkling eyes,

Brown-eyed beauty ~

When I was a little 'cherub', clowns used to frighten me as well! I would cry and hang onto my my Mom's skirt whenever I would see one! Go figure, I never liked potato chips, either! Aren't kids supposed to like clowns and potato chips?!? lol

Love you, Girly!

Your sss,
Linda Lou

(huggies) That last line was truly haunting, especially in that it can often take a while for some particular intuitive, sensitive person to see behind the thick make-up, and it truly fascinates me how some are willing to give and sacrifice so much just to see to it the big tent doesn't flap down! (sigh) May love come and set all these jokers free! This was a most compassionate write, thanks sooooooooo much!

~ and yours was a most "compassionate" reply!

Like yourself, I try to see behind the masks that most people wear. I have discovered many wonderful things that I otherwise would not have found if I had not taken the time to really look..and then there have been some things that I would have preferred not have discovered! lol

Much love to you, my angelic friend,

I was at a fair today in the rain and a clown came to walk with me under my umbrella. I tried to cheer him up but he never smiled. Was very sad

Lindy Lou, The different ways you write poetry just shows your ability to create

a masterpiece in nearly everything you write. I just loved the post about the

clown, it was a delight to read.
loved it and you.
