We arrive by North at the Californian border, the customs post is on the left, we ignore it and pass on the right, a siren sounds… ” Rush, just do it” said Pierre Yves, “let us run away”.. He is 20 years old and has watched a lot of American series, I am 36 and I know that it can make a nasty story… I make u turn and we check at customs post… We have nothing to blame us, nothing to declare, no alcohol, no tobacco, our only drug is the beauty of this country. |

Yo Bobby, I don't know what could have happened, may be some chase car or fine or prison...We made the good choice and I still don't understand my fellow's reaction... regards yann |

Dear Yann, I enjoy the wildness of this one. Have you had a chance to read anything by Tom Lux? He's been around since the late 60's and has written a lot, has a pretty good, pretty wide reputation and has the sort of imagination that I think you might admire. I like the image of the customs station. I live in California, but I've never crossed the border by car, only flown. The state tries to be careful about things like fruit because it's an agricultural state, but I'm really not sure if there's an actual inspection station. They certainly don't check cars for cigarettes or liquor or parfum from outremer. Oregon and Washington are North of California, which are apparently, in their own ways, every bit as odd as The Golden State. If you land at an international airport on an international flight from an international destination, then you will go through customs. Love your Pal. A Goddard fan perhaps? The wild romanticism is endearing. All my best, Bob Kaven |

Yann, Also Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas, the book, not the movie, by Hunter S. Thompson. I would call it Delusional Journalism. Thompson called it Gonzo Journalism. The book was originally a series of articles in Rolling Stone in the Late 60's. It has a sort of manic humor to it. Let me know. You may have attacks of hysteria. Yann, it is interesting that even Hawaii, which is within the United States but thousands of miles away, encompasses the same logistics of claiming one's self. I know...I tried to bring an innocent piece of driftwood back to the states. [A piece of beauty...] No go. ![]() But if one has nothing to hide, then you did the very right thing. Kudos on the imagery! And...thanks for responding to my own writings. I enjoyed your comment. ![]() [This message has been edited by Sunshine (08-08-2009 08:50 AM).] |
