my pounding heart hammered inside my chest were my eyes playing tricks on me? i must have read the box wrong two pink lines second and third glances dizzied me numbly i walked to the bed where he sat, waiting “well, what did it say?” two pink lines the fear took over and tears poured down my face my words were caught in my throat “we’re pregnant!” i cried he held me close as i stuttered and sobbed questions raced in my mind-how will we do this? i picked up the phone needing reassurance from my best friend suddenly this beautiful spectrum of light washed me over with joy my heart flooded with hope an excitement was building “hello?” “mom…two pink lines.” spectrum series **My spectrum series is dedicated to my beautiful eight year old son who has recently been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder called aspergers syndrome. He also has tourette’s disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and an anxiety disorder. He means the world to me and I want to share him and his story. This is for you, my little hawk.** |

I have goosebumps for the intensity of this write, dear Maranda. You call him "little hawk" and surely that's a fitting name for a boy with above average intelligence who most certainly has just adaptation problems and needs serene guidance and love more than anything else. You are beautiful! Love, Margherita |

Fly high alongside your little hawk. It sounds like you are more than capable of handling any challenging behaviors. Enjoy your flight. |

I came in to read and was thinking of a country song that has the same title as this poem. I read and became very involved by your message. I am glad that you are writing of your son and I hope to read more of your poems about him. Alison |
