![]() This lovely heirloom of varnished wood Stands handsome in the hall Gracing my home for many a year Keeping perfect time for all Its pendulums swing back and forth As time just slips away And on the hour a chord is struck As music starts to play Its face and hands are delicate With filigree of gold The numbers intricate and fine As made in days of old I love to listen to the chimes Of my cherished grandfather clock For often it seems to speak to me Through its gentle, slow tick-tock Tonight I think of days long gone The happiness and tears For it has gained a special place Through all those passing years It holds within its heart of oak Beauty that lingers near Providing in time-honoured ways Its loving brand of cheer |

Lovely! I remember the clock in my Grandmother's hallway, and the sound as I read this. Now that is a l-o-n-g time ago. ![]() |

Dear Katriona that is a beautiful poem, a real delight to read. I can understand the pleasure you get from that stately heirloom as we have one almost the same, one of our most valued possessions. The rhyme and rythym are spot on. Very much enjoyed. Love Lindsay |

Yo dear Heart2Heart, This is a nice clock Hon. My brother-in-law put one of those together years ago. He's dead now about twenty years. He was my best friend, and introduced me to my wife. He was a kind guy. Your poem and picture brought him to mind. Love Bobby |

quote: Most beautiful verse, dear Katriona. Clocks like this have a touch of majesty and "innate wisdom" I would say ... they have seen and recorded so much. Inspiring and moving. Love this much. Love, Margherita ![]() |

What a treasure! The clock, the poem, ~ and you! I got such a warm feeling of familiarity as I read along. In the old homestead,~ built in 1821 and torn down to make way for a canal ~ which was never built!!!!) there wes every kind of grand clock imaginable. Oh, how I adored them all! You brought back some fond memories for me. Presently we have an antique pendulum wall clock ~ but alas, it does not chime. Katriona, your poetry is alway a joy to behold. ![]() ![]() Love, Linda |

This is absolutely beautiful. Both, the clock and the poem. I love to hear the sound of a grandfathers clock. Your poetry is always such a joy to read, Heart2Heart! |

What a lovely clock, Katriona. I see why you cherish it and would write such a beautiful poem about it. I just love the title of this one. Ida |
