All Dutch ships built had a carved tulip on the very top of the mainmast. Launching of the Mary Rose Red sky peering over the tulip As the cross trees sway The Dutch master's fnished mast Carved and launched this day The tulip his last, now finished As the wine breaks upon the bow Hemp and steel wire ropes, snap She slips from her bed, whistles blow The figurehead bows to the waters Lifting, as the waves fill her breasts The crack of canvas, she fills her cheeks Waves break with curling crests Hard a starboard nee larboard Port side without an oar As she slips beneath the winds At the sound of King Neptune's roar. |
