Would that words could suffice to comfort thee Thou would have an array of loving praise Set thenceforth before other eyes to see Proclaimed upon gilded horns thereby raised If only words could take the place of arms To be thy strength, echo of heart's resound To offer safe harbor from constant harm And delve deeper thou love to depths profound Yet, cold is the comfort that they contain A mere shadow impaled by the darkness Of thine ever distant heart to maintain With but words written by a pen's caress Shall words bring all of warmth and love to thee? Shall in reading, bring thou closer to me? |
