(This Poem is Dedicated to My Best Friend Cassandra) For My Sister in Almost Every Way When I was sad and alone You were there When I was happy and joyful Your love for me shone Like dazzling stars in the forest at midnight When I was angry and hurt You calmed me down Your words had surround Me with peacefulness and serenity You really care about me This is how I know you have a true beauty When I was bored and annoying You were still on the phone with me Only someone who was family Had ever done that and didn’t tell me to shut up You have never been the one for gossip And so whatever I told you Always stayed behind your lips Even after I made some pretty hurtful slips Why is it that your heart is so true? It seems to me your heart is golden And no I’m not exaggerating I’ve seen you comfort other people while you were also hurting I’ve seen you calm down people When they said for you to leave them be I’ve seen you connect with me In a way no one else has I’ve seen you happy and sad Your one of the most unselfish people I know I’ve seen you say hello To people who did you wrong I’ve seen you be strong When people shunned you and acted like you didn’t belong Friend cannot even describe my connection with you Best friend cannot even explain how you’ve gotten through To the true me Sister cannot even reveal what you mean to me It cannot begin to define how much I love you deeply Always, |

Kai, I struggle in my friendships with my blood sisters. I have three and all are a lot older than me. I have one best friend - she is my "sister by choice". I read her in every line of your poem. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful tribute to your "sister by choice". Alison |
