**WARNING** This was made specifically for girls. Boys can read it too, but it tells ALL the things girls go through, including menstural cycles and the like. So if your somebody who thinks it's gross, please don't read it... Thank you. The Woes of a Teenage Girl A teenage girl goes through a lot As she grows, the world can be cruel Mother Nature plays her pawn And acceptance is sought Through peers and boys Many joys Of little girl life Have been replaced with worries Of approval from people Who only care if you’re popular and have a great body They never want to know about your personality Unless you’re as snobbish as they are Or if it will get them the cookie It’s irritating to remind yourself to be ladylike and proper Sometimes we just want to relax and say whatever “Close your legs” “Chew with your mouth closed” “Put on a different t-shirt It’s too exposed” Being a teenage girl is hard Especially when you’re on your period And your stomach feels like its being ripped to shreds The cramps come in waves Mood swings come at all times of the day And then your body starts to crave Suddenly, you forget to do that History essay When you start to get breasts Your chest starts hurting And they sometimes feel extra tender And not even painkillers can make it better And then we have to worry about the snobs Girls who think they’re better than you And think they have a higher value Girls who are frenemies Who pretend to be your friend And then in the end Stab you in the back And make jokes about you and back-stabbing cracks Some girls try to say they’ve never gone through it But I think at one point or another They had a moment of self-doubt or were worried about they’re outfit And then always No matter what age you are You can get a bad reputation Faster than you can say “miscomplication” You could have been the girl that only did it once But his promised silence Blossomed into a full blown rumor You could have been the girl who never did anything But since you didn’t give it up He lies and spreads rumors while you start crying Or maybe you were the girl who got drunk at the party And now everyone’s talking About how you were so sluttish and nasty Then we have to be on our guard with guys For those who are our age The players come out And try to play you until you put out They don’t care about your feelings or your dignity All they care about is getting all the girls They can So they tell their friends and see who got the most Sometimes they even post It on the internet “But you promised you’d never show anyone!” ....you’re standing there crying “Sorry, but you were just there for those few seconds of heaven” And then he walks away laughing But those aren’t the only guys we have to look out for Because men as old as sixty-four Have been known to rape young girls like you and me And all you were doing was walking down the street You could be dressed either way... In tight skirts And low-cut shirts Or you could be in baggy jeans And looking unremarkable or plain It doesn’t matter to them You’re just a young girl in her teens Personally I’d rather wear jeans and be plain Because chances are the pedophiles will back off and refrain The biggest problem of all Is the fear of not knowing what you’ll grow up to be So many girls end up pregnant So many end up as strippers Or your average street hookers So many end up on drugs As a result of low self-esteem And the next thing you know your life is destroyed and broken It could happen to anyone Don’t say that it wouldn’t to you Because you don’t know what life throws your way Or what you’ll go through But I just have to say this And this goes for any girl Ask yourself Are you going to be the damsel in distress? Feel sorry for yourself and wait for someone to save you? Or are you going to be the true Woman you are And be Strong Even if you don’t always belong? Are you going to be the independent thinker? Or just say whatever And give up on life? No matter where life may take you Always know that you have a strength inside yourself no one can take away Not your peers, family, or any kind of man And if you live by that, day by day You will always find your way "Love me, Hate me, Either way you can't break me" -Imani Cortez Always, |

I am a teen and i have gone threw all of what you mentioned. My old teachers say it was the best times of their life... well i dont see (or feel) what is so good about it! People call you vain if you think that you look Ok in a pair of sweats and self-destructive if you dont! YOU CANT WIN. |

Kai, this brought tears to my eyes and I have just turned 60. The tears are more for wanting to give you a hug for "knowing" what you need to do in today's society to stay strong and be yourself and not cater to what others want and think of you. Many years ago, I decided not to be a cheerleader or a gymnastics star or join any exclusive high school clubs other than the Pep club to cheer others on. I was on the volleyball team although being only 5'4" and didn't mind being second string. I was a substitute classroom representative, and I promised to be friendly with all groups so as not to exclude anyone but not to join those myself. And you know what, I still have many people who remember me after all these years mostly for just being a nice/kind person. That was/is enough for me. I can say I have had a fairly successful, enjoyable and productive life. ((hugs)) for you and all who have to deal with the jealousies and torment of being a teenager today. M |

It seems I am following Maureen tonight, but we are walking a path of excellent writing by some of our younger members. This is some fine writing, Kai. I wish I had read this when I was in my early teens. I'll be back to read this again. In admiration, Alison |
