Cookies and Rain

The storm,
a symphony;
the wind,
an orchestra;
and the rain,
an essemble of beats.

Until I shut out nature
and turn to
the chemistry of confectionery.

The floodgates are loosened and
my mouth fills with anticipation.
A fact: the quickest way to a man's heart
is through his stomach (my heart at least).

But I digress.
The armoa of baked goods beckons.
So my nose, like a hound, points the way;
my feet are quick to follow.

The cold wood floor, a testament to the storm's might,
is forgotten in my quest for chocolate-chipped treasure.
My feet fly down the stairs; the handrail a blur.
In moments, I settle into the kitchen, where
a semblance of warmth drifts.

Spotting the substance I seek,
I snatch up
and bite down
into my prize.

Soft. Softer than an infant's sigh.
Sweet. Sweeter than the honey-tipped words of a liar.
Warm and moist, the cookie conforms to the contours of my mouth,
like an edible, malleable metal.

But the cookie is my own undoing.
Set ablaze by a rush of sugar,
I am forced
to endure

the storm,
a symphony;
the wind,
an orchestra;
and the rain,
an essemble of beats.

Um, wasn't my best...But I started this during a sugary high, and kinda lost the buzz during the second-to-last stanza.

I think this was very good, normally i don't care for poems that don't rhyme but i liked reading this one. Once i had started reading i couldn't stop which is unusual for me cuz normally i have to force myself to read a poem.

With God I am happy; sadness has no say in my life.

This hooked me.
