Nothing like a bit of break-up poetry.

I haven't been writing much lately so excuse the rustiness. Crit welcome, as always.

Shadows

You’re a shadow now
Always drifting behind
Even when the sun lights up the back of my head
And illuminates my mind

The bitterness has eased
And the tears have melted too
It’s the warmth and talk and smiles
That I want back from you

I spent so much time and energy
Curled up in my own sorry self-pity
Of a broken down, beaten up relationship
That was never really pretty

But one night of reunion
In friendship and in trust
Has made me come to realise
It’s got naught to do with lust

But I’ve trampled every part
Of what could have been okay
By thriving on my anger
And the flaws in every day

But it’ll be alright, I know now
Because it’s taught me more, I see
I’ve learnt from my mistakes
I know you gave a lot to me

You’re a shadow now
Always drifting behind
It’s a comfort, it’s a lesson
It reminds me you were mine.

its just so beautiful...
i especially liked this-

simple yet captures a heartfelt emotion. Just lovely
