I gaze at sunlight on the table absently,
but birds keep flying between the sun and the windowpane.

Like time-lapse photography their tabletop silhouettes flit past and are gone.
These are songbirds, not hawks, vultures condors, or geese.

It's hard for some people to admit they were fooled.
