She's alone.
A dark winter day
Her bills are piling,
Causing dismay
Don’t mean to write a burden
But I harden this way
Tear drops christen her palms,
Sorrow eclipses her instincts.
On a dark winter day

Turkey in a pan,
on the counter generating rust
The kitchen's broom,
in a corner collecting dust.
A child screams!
On a dark winter day

The screams fall on deaf ears
"Why do I read the Bible"
She thinks, holding the Holy Scripture.
On a dark winter day.
It's a miracle it's still on the mantle
with holy pictures.
On this dark winter day.

Cold and hungry,
on a dark winter day.
A store down the block,
An electric furnace,
No power this dark winter day.
Can only pay her rent!
This dark winter day.

No time for Comet and Cupid,
this dark winter day.
Dreams of a banquet and fluid,
on this dark winter day.
Life on the street haunts her fears
this dark winter day.
The reality of life,
makes her shed a tear!
A dark winter day

Great poem with tons of feeling - unfortunate state many have seen.

I really enjoyed reading it, particularly love the lines:

"Tear drops christen her palms,
Sorrow eclipses her instincts."

Great work and connection to 3rd stanza in your poem.

Such a different style than you usually write. I still enjoyed it, though. Great work.
