When soft hearts are hardened by callous hands
When crying eyes are dried by coarse linens that are sown together with rough words
When new and tender dreams are shredded by careless, aimless anger
When lying tongues cause gaping wounds in young spirits
And when words spoken in misguided contempt blister innocent skin

Then in the end
The one you see before you is all that is left.
And who are you to object?

When fathers leave
and brothers turn away
When mothers cry
and daughters die inside

Then in the end
Who you see before you is all that remains.

In the years to come
If to you
I am aloof
Or I am cold and uncaring
and if my eyes spill fire instead of tears

Then who are you to object?
After all
It was you who made me thus

If I don't say it...who will?
