Every tiny murdered babe Becomes a Spectre from the grave The Priest who creeps into a cot Shall in Hell forever rot. Each and every child abused Leaves the simple soul bemused The Soldier’s hands which drip with blood Will never know the taste of love. The Politician, clothed with lies Shall drink his blood, and be despised. The Addict, a victim of the State Shall die and live where there’s no Hate. The Woman who kills her child unborn Stinking rags will her adorn. The Doctor who has taken life Shall feel the sharpness of the knife. The Thief who breaks into the night Shall never learn the art of flight. The Mugger roaming on the road In Hell becomes a stinking Toad The Investor’s promise, thin as air, Does the innocent dupe ensnare. Do not destroy the very old; This by your Mother you were told. The dancing bear which fears the crowd Does the raddled brain becloud. The Dealer who peddles powdered Hate, For him repentance comes too late. The Lawyer’s Costs, the poor man’s Hope Are the reasons for the hangman’s rope. The Boy who’s forced to go to School Will turn out twice as much the Fool. Those filled with Folly and with Hate, Have shown they’re unable to Debate. The Prostitute, for Vice a target, Would earn less in the supermarket. The President may all men regale As long as he does not inhale. The single mother’s lonely curse Opens not the public purse. The artist forced to clothe the nude Will never be by fame pursued. God appears and God is Man To those who do not understand But does Divinity display To those who dwell in realms of day. |

First, I loved this poem. Second, could you explain this one line? "The Prostitute, for Vice a target, Would earn less in the supermarket." |

Hi,HM. Thanks for your kind comment. Regarding this line,it means that the prostitute, who is in danger because of her profession, may be in that profession partly because society does not supply any viable alternative for some women. Also, I am suggesting that perhaps the element of exploitation is as present in doing a mimimum wage job, as it is in the ( much higher paid ) job of being a prostitute. Best wishes, vampirelover. |
