What happened to that young boy?

What happened to that young boy with the wonder in his eye,
He used to love gazing through a telescope into the sky.
Observing and admiring the stars and galaxies,
He knew this existence was constructed exquisitely.
While the majority of life on this planet is so distracted with their daily lives,
A boy is more concerned with much larger things than the earth, and few realize.
Every person has a potential that is like the universe,
Infinitely beautiful you just have to find it first.
As he grows his mind is sickened and crippled by society,
The media is a drug and he has never known sobriety.
The public educational systems limit his ability,
The make a lot of promises and never fulfill any.
Because of the carefully constructed society in which he takes part,
He knows he will always be a wage slave forever, this tears him apart.
What happened to that young boy?
That young boy who dreamed about the universe filled with stars.
Now as lost and distant as the planet mars.

I guess his true potential and destiny,
That everyone has and knows not its worth.
Has deteriorated indefinitely,
To remain as unknown as the entire universe.
Maybe one day they will see,
That boy was someone.
That boy was me.
