I Remember When neighbors came to visit And we'd just sit for awhile. Mama would cut her new baked cake And serve it with a smile. Or perhaps we'd have a game of cards, Of Rummy, maybe Whist. We'd talk about the folks passed on And how much they were missed. The new preacher might be discussed. Some called him high-falutey, Until Mama reminded quietly. "To save us is his duty." Those days are gone and now we sit In front of our big TV. We learn about the whole, wide world And neighbors never see. Joyce 6/7/08 |

Joyce, I remember those days as well! Gosh, I'm feeling nostalgic right about now! Yes, times have certainly changed. Mind you, I continue my Mom's tradition of baking cakes, but ofttimes I use a cake mix! ~ and then eat it by myself in front of the big screen TV! Love you! Linda |

Yo dear Joyce, This is a nice poem. Some of us do sit out, in fact, here in the hood, it's common. I always sit out, starting at about eight thirty, after I walk the dog. There's always someone to talk to. Also, when I walk the dog, there's always someone that wants my big dog to hug them. Her name's Hilda, and Hilda loves everyone. Love Bobby |

Things were different a few years ago but those times are gone and when we are gone only our words may remain to remind people that those times even existed. Ida |

I really enjoy this poem. Times truly have changed and I wish I could have experienced what you wrote about in the beginning of your poem. People cut themselves off from everyone else these days. Great right, Sara |

I loved the nostalgia in your lovely poem, Joyce. Thank you for it. And Bobby, if I lived in your hood, I would be the first in line to hug and be hugged by your dog, Hilda. - Owl |

That is a great poem Joyce but it is a wonderful thing that we can retain such wonderful memories of that bygone era. It brought back a lot of memories for me as well. I love the way you write. Love. Lindsay |
