The years have costs, also compensations, at times paying attention makes going off the reservation worth the price of being tracked, annihilated by cavalry in wastelands of time. Living at high speed now, a fugitive roaming by night on the plain of souls, the faster I move the slower life burns, the more aware I become of subtle twists, unexpected turns in the road, what could have been obstacles whereon beliefs are shattered become scenery and opportunities I would have ignored in youth. I have come to realize women don't like men in general; only by unique depth of charity in a woman's heart may one find an esoteric sense of hospitality the simple will to choose to make exceptions, allowances of kindness, to overlook in an individual what her gender wiring defines as an inherent flaw in being male. It flows from beyond the edges of eternity, where honesty is hidden beneath cosmetics of civility, wherein to a traveler sleep reveals a weakness in this narrowness of vision, where true emptiness begins, beyond redemption's pale where the sublime becomes a passage to imagination's hunger, where winds of longing fill the sails to drive her ship of dreams to split asunder upon eternal shoals of lust barely hidden just beneath the surface, awash ‘neath churning memories on an evening's yearning sea. ©2008 by icebox . |

Dear Box of Ice, I think a good title sets the stage for the tone of a poem ~ and yours are always spot on! ~ and creative! "The years have costs, also compensations" ~ Thank goodness for those compensations! "Living at high speed now" ~ Ain't that the troooth! The older I get, the faster time ~ and my life! ~ is speeding by! "I have come to realize women don't like men in general" ~ Oh, dear! Methinks, perhaps, you have not had met the warmest of women! Those who truly appreciate men in general. I for one, love and respect most of the men who have crossed my path in life. May your "evening's yearning sea" be sated with love and tenderness. Giving you a warm, loving hug, EA |

I love the reference to "going off the reservation." Being in the same sort of place and time. This poem hits home for me. Can't think of anyone I would rather read, Mr. Ice. Ida |

"It flows from beyond the edges of eternity, where honesty is hidden beneath cosmetics of civility" Oh, I do believe that's an underlying game with both sexes, m'friend, though perhaps, females play it more effectively? It's always more difficult to connect with people who aren't 'straight up front.' |

quote: I love your profound poetic reflections, dear Charlie. "In general" allows exceptions ... so there is hope. Love, margherita |
