I dreamed my son died, as all the sky with every hue of sunbreak's fry was swallowed by my mouth in "Noooooo..." then all the rain fell down my throat, and if I had not choked on that I think that I might have died too. I'd like to say I had a day of rainbows and a sepia- filtered-homey-homily, but the truth is that I dreamed; and I woke up grateful, true, so very happy he was home and then I blanked ingratitude. I wish that I could boast about a perfect day I spent with him. But the truth is I forgot how deep the pain would be the loss of his happy lopsided grin annoying me so teasingly-- how impatiently I wait before the bathroom door at eight each morn with my legs in martyred cross, banging on the door near-spent making noises animal and thinking thoughts I can't repent. I dreamed my son died this morning. I'm happy I imagined it. I wonder how my mother spends each morning, waking, just like this... A mother does habitual count of heads, to add the beans. I do not know how to subtract I can't imagine the abstract of once there was the triplets at the table, elbowing the laughs as the men preferred to stand (By Daddy's eyebrowed reprimand) watching over all... I'd druther not have dreams at all. And other times, they are my grace. The ones when everyone is there... forgive me, I just might sleep late second helpings on my plate banana pudding and the scrape of spoon upon vanilla waves-- let me wake and find them there? A simple dream of mine. |

Being a mother myself I felt this write. Dreams can be interpreted in so many different ways so perhaps just think that he's on to a new start as something more than he is at the moment. I think I read somewhere that he was going away to college? That's it you see. However, it still wasn't a nice dream to have. I wish you more pleasant ones in future. Love Helen |

*smile* My anxiety is out of control. I had a certified doctor tell me that. I replied that if I could control it, it wouldn't be anxiety, now would it? Me and doctors...I oughtta write a book. Thanks for reading. I still haven't gone back to sleep. I'm afraid of the "feature presentation" |

Ms serene. We all feel these things about our kids, wishing sometimes we could do it all over again and protect them with armor, but then again they are stronger with the scars. Enjoyed u here |

you know I read in a book that if you dream someone dies, it means the opposite. I think I will go with that |

Actually, I've dream of my own death--several times! In one memorable dream, I tripped over my own head. But that's another poem... |

Dear Serenity!, Yes dreams are very interesting. I have had my fair of dreams. Even when I almost die myself lol *I know, crazy huh** Sometimes they feel so real that I don't want to have a dream ever again. Things I don't want to dream about. Some of my poems are my dreams I have. Then I write them down because I don't want to forget them. Excellent Write Dearest Karen! To you ARCTIC WIND |

My uterus is the size of an eggplant. That has nothing to do with anything, but I thought, what the heck? You don't seem to scare easy, so I just figgered I'd toss a fun fact out here. Dreams...man, I write about them alot. I read somewhere that Dali slept with a sketchpad so he could capture as much of them as he could...all the surrealism, yanno. I talk a lot when I'm nervous. I mean. I talk a lot anyway, but when I'm nervous, it's just ridiculous. I talk to my family as they shut their bedroom doors (hint hint) then I talk through the doors, and I always seem to be talking to the back of my sister's head. And then when I'm DRUGS? OHHHHHHHH BOY! I give entire lectures in my sleep, or so I'm told. The history and evolution of sacrificial rituals was one of my more interesting drug babbles. That and lima beans. Nod. They'll probably shove a tube down my throat just to shut me up. I hope I don't say anything stupid. h-heh? Thanks for reading, AW. Sometimes I SING in my sleep! Ask Nan. I woke up one morning singing "goody goody" by Frankie Lymon. I've never been able to share a bedroom with anybody. I'm gonna shaddup now. TMI? Eggplant! Sheesh. Enough already. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip!!!---> |

Dreams can be rough. Even knowing it is a dream...the images stir real emotions. That was a hard one. I am still a bit p.o.'d at certain people...over certain things that I caught them doing...in certain dreams from long ago. ::shrugs:: (((Serenity))) I love the flavor of eggplant. It is the oyster of the vegetable family. ::smiles:: and you are such a pearl. |

Karen, I must say your ramblings are always so amusing and enlightening. You jumped from your egg plant uterus to the history of sacrificial ritual in two paragraphs. I bow down to your rambling prowess. Anyway, I wish you more peaceful sleep and hope your anxiety went down, at least to a non-thesis/book level. On a final note, I beat you with the nervous thing. I ramble and talk like speedy gonzales. Hugs Jill |

Jill? I think I'm gonna quaff down that Valerian and try for a nap. (No zanax for moi the next few days...and I'm playin' by the rules this time.) That tube down the throat bit is decidedly not funny. So...I'm gonna be over there---> hold down the fort me, k? love you! Thanks for checking in. |

So when you get up and find me nodding agreement in the anxiety of dreams, you'll also imagine me holding you... |

forgive me while I chuckle at the image of you tripping over your own head... I've had those dreams too... where I died... can't say I recall ever tripping over my head... they were some pretty disturbing dreams, though... but Karen?... what Marge said... sleep well... and SLEEP LATE... *smile* dream sweet, my sis... ya know I love ya... Now that was some reading through your poem, the replies and your additions, dear Karen! I was going to say what Suesea said: when you dream of someone dying you actually add years to that life ... here in Italy they are positive about this. I know it is not fun though to have such a dream. Gosh, you made me laugh though with your "crossed leg" position in the morning. Guys take forever to come out of the bathroom, that's for sure! Eggplants are my favorite vegetable, they are simply awesome in shape and in color and substance. They are different size of course, so I want to believe that your uterus has the right size, whatever. In the end, it is something we can do without, but we don't like the idea, especially if we are deeply conscious of our being females. What I really dread is the idea of the tube down the throat! They should do that only when we are already asleep/unconscious ... I wonder do we have dreams when sleep is forced on us? Can't remember, though I have been a few times in that situation. Anyway, dream on, it's all an elaboration of our thoughts while awake and also of the visual impressions we store ... and of our fears and we know a mother's fear is sometimes incontrollable for her offspring when she worries. As soon as such a sad thought hits my mind I "neutralize" it by saying a prayer of gratitude to the Angels of my son and daughter for their wonderful protection ... Be well, dear Karen, Poetess! Love and hugs. Margherita |

quote: Now you're reminding me of my mother. She was in one deep sleep one afternoon, and Dad told me to go in and wake her up. [She didn't want to sleep past a certain hour...and she loved her naps!] Well, this was a good one. Mom, you need to wake up now." "I've got to get the potatoes" What potatoes? "The potatoes, I've got to get them, everyone will be here soon." So I left her for a moment, went and got Dad, and he came in with me to try to wake her up. Honey, time to get up. "Here, help me with the potatoes. Start digging." And it went on, and on. Pretty soon the entire family was in Mom and Dad's room, listening to this conversation about digging up potatoes. Dad kept feeding her questions, and she was going on and on just as if she were awake [and she wasn't! because she wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face as all of us kids were giggling behind our hands.!] Oh, the fun we could have on an overnighter with you! |

Those kind of dreams always leave me feeling moody all day... You spin the story of a dream quite well, Ser. "...buried way beneath the sheets |

(((((((Ser)))))))) More than anything about this that strikes me to the core is the courage it takes to write it. On every level! Putting yourself in your mother's shoes, your own feelings and anxieties. The love in your heart is so full it makes mine nearly burst! Miss ya lady and my prayers are with you. |

the first line raptly got my attention and it was a fast-paced read to the end, the description of the relationship and the earnest hopes warming me |
