Surprise! We patiently stand in the dark, full of delayed surprise Anxiously waiting for your arrival, donning clever disguise Whispers, murmurs, laughter as we’re all are hidden, veiled in black Huddled together tightly, a clustered crowd, collectively packed All here for a birthday, the partaker oblivious, unaware As we crouch down all assembled, all lovingly planned with care Four score years and ten is today a task, no easy feat Well done to you, a unique gem, deserving a special treat Faint footsteps softly, gently heard down the corridor lit dim Hushed silence, joy and pleasure comes hidden from within Your gentle voice can be heard, as you openly speculate and wonder Why no one now bothers nowadays that you’re not getting younger The time has now come at last, no need for any more lies We spring and leap from concealed spots and all shout out “surprise!” |

this made me smile, sounds like you had more fun in the surprising than the person being surprised! |
