Florence Nightingale was a famous nurse. She helped make hospitals clean. She said to the doctors, "Hey, what have we got here? There's yucky stuff on this machine." She cleaned all the yuckies And thought as she worked, "These nurses should really get paid." So she started a school and wrote all the rules And made nursing a brand new trade. |

Gar - You (and others) really sound like you are enjoying them and I just love that. This was the last... but I'm so motivated to pick up those history books again and do some more! Aunt Karilea - I will! |

Debra Graeshine is a famous poet Who helps us with history and rhyme She taught us to think (I hope I don’t stink?) Her feelings are always sublime Her passion’s apparent And so is her job Of raising her wonderful kids We’re lucky she’s here She is so sincere This unto you I surely bid Wonderful poem! |

The words of your poems are just the tip dear poet. It's the person behind them that make all the difference. [This message has been edited by Richy (07-12-2008 12:26 AM).] |

I love your "silly" lessons! As a registered nurse who graduated from a Florence Nightingale school of nursing, I found this one especially appealing. In nursing residence, my room was next to the school archives and my bed was up against the wall that separated them. Up against the wall on the other side and in a glass case, was a letter from dear Florence, herself! As I lay in bed at night, I was only a few inches away from her letter ~ and her energy! I went to sleep each night with a smile on my face and proud to be carrying on, albeit in a small way, her work to help those in need. Love to you ~ and to dear Florence ~ and to all our nursing sisters! Linda |

Richy, Alison, and Ida - Thanks! I have to find (or maybe buy) some more history books - I've run out of poems back from the day and am looking forward to doing some more. Angel - that is waayyyyy cool. When I was reading about Florence Nightingale, I honestly had no idea why she was so influencial as a nurse. I had this idea that she was just a good nurse... lol... Hence, when I found out her ideas on what nursing truly is, her intelligence and common sense on having clean, sterile atmoshpere, and the fact that she really did bring nursing to the forefront of a "career", I was surprised. Glad you liked it! |

Thank Goodness for Florence Nightingale! The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone. |
