Raw and rugged landscape follows toil with rest Soaks in life through deep veins infinitely blessed Adorned in weft and warp of dry-stone wall vest Where tiny beads of sheep breakout across his chest Carry me shoulder high to him, north north west. |

I really love what you are doing here. Forgive me if this make you yawn, but upon the death of Princess Diana? (Don't wince.) I've a British friend who told me I'd have to be British to understand the allusorary lyrics transited by Bernie Taupin, ( From "Goodbye Norma Jean") to Diana's tribute of "greens" and "roses"--my friend waxed on poetically about tradition, and said I couldn't possibly understand. But I thought I did, btw, being a fan of the English Romantics. I feel like you are taking this a step farther though. You are making the landscape embraceable in the now as it is personalized as well as modernized. *smile* Your talent is more than evident, but I am in awe of your love poems to the country/countryside. (I feel the same tendrils of loving "home" on my own city, so I respect this very much.) I'm enjoying your work immensely, and oh-I must-get-a-passport! |

I'm from Lancashire myself, but am moving Australia next year, yet your words brought appreciation I never knew I had for this place. Very well done |

Oh, I soaked myself into this very English countryside. I especially loved the tiny beads of sheep. - Owl |

Serenity, thank you for your kind words! I didnt wince at all.. only at the comment from your british friend. By eck we brits can be a pompous lot at times Lol. I see nothing complex in the Diana tribute.. nothing that a few rousing bursts of Jerusalem wouldnt put right anyway. And I think you totally get it. We are all just different people in different places. If we take the time we can surely understand plenty. As for Lancashire, I am from Berkshire originally, which my poetic eyes see as a very feminine county, rather soft and flowy and I love to compare it to the muscular form of the hills here. Ri, Im in Accy so you are only over the road. Hope you enjoy your forthcoming Incredible journey. I went backpacking around Oz some years ago and loved it. Owl, Im glad you like the beads, where textile manufacturing was the backbone of the economy here during the industrial revolution, I feel that sheep farming must therefore have been the breastbone. lol. In any case that line inspired the rest of the verse so thats interesting you pointed it out. xxxjanetxxx |

janet, I enjoyed your poem so much and I loved your response later, "As for Lancashire, I am from Berkshire originally, which my poetic eyes see as a very feminine county, rather soft and flowy and I love to compare it to the muscular form of the hills here." This was a wonderful description of what you see. Thank you, A |
