Cicada Serenade |

July gave us the rare delight of a Cicada Serenade, their Zest-for-Life notes filling the sultry night air as feisty fireflies danced a Zigzag Jig on the ebony stage. Now August arrives amid thunderbolts, sudden earth-drenching downpours, and a well-hidden Cricket Chorus-line keeps Buttons the cat on her toes, springing window-to-window hoping to discover what in the name of Gaia is making all that noise. Can it be those flighty fireflies??? Naw, she purrs, remembering they’ve been flitting about for weeks, while this strange sound began just days ago. With a quizzical meow she chases me 'round the house demanding an answer. I laugh, telling her, it’s just the Cricket Chorus-line, taking center stage since the Cicadas left town. Buttons pins her ears, turns her back to me. Obviously dissatisfied with my explanation, she saunters off into the next room seeking enlightenment elsewhere. And as I gaze at the night sky I wonder outloud, what 'Opus' might September bring? |

I love your "nature" poems. Kacy and certainly relate to the cat's reaction as I have 6 of them. I have 2 cats who do not hunt at all. not even a grasshopper. I find that strange but I guess they are non-violent cats. Ahead of their time. Ida |

Glad you enjoyed it, Lori! Ida, aren't cats hilarious sometimes? They never fail to entertain us. Di, OK, I'll give her a huge Diana hug, and tell her it came from an Owl, as I imitate an owl. You should see her reaction to my CD with bird calls on it! |

Hi Midnitesun, my best friend had cats too… I like dog though… for that reason I love nature and all animals. I had sparrows, pigeons, parrots, squirrels, dogs, fishes, rabbits, hens, etc….Nice to hear about your cats. Tell them hi from Prasad. "Hardwork pays in the long run" |

Loved the images and the sounds I felt when reading this. It has been far too long since I have been able to hear those sounds. I hear more of the surf now LOL ...( not complaining though. I enjoyed much. |

Sometimes 'nature' poems are spoilt by the writer trying to show off with glossy adjective after adjective. You have avoided that by showing your thoughts through your cat. A lovely piece of work (the poem, not the cat although I am sure that he/she is too) |

Seasonal changes sometimes leave us feeling sad, and we especially seem to bemoan the passing of summer. Yet the beauty of Autumn, when the air suddenly turns crisp as leaves change into their colorful attire...well, it offers its own magic! |
