in the shadows

Where does darkness flow
when light seeps into shadows,
when windows find their lines again,
when dawn aches beneath horizons
and builds to undeniable?
A friend,
like an acquired taste,
with preference not to linger,
I see it scurry and I cry, “Don’t go!”
not yet my heart is pleading
beneath the dull window,
stay,
enfold me I’ve been good
not roving in the night;
so many years since I’ve gone hunting
the stray tasty errant wastrel
soul.

It's always good to see your words on the blue pages!  I guess dark has to go so that we can see the light - we do have to see it, you know, at some time or other in our many lives.

It's interesting, isn't it how those of us who are acknowledged owls, breath a little easier when the night comes. Somehow our visual acuity improves in matters of the head and heart, our heads in gentle turn can look back over our shoulder to examine what lays behind and make out what lies in the shadows.
A very enjoyable read touching the mystery of the night and its most beautiful attribute, both physical and meta...

icebox....heart-touching

"Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender
Turn your face away
from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away
from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night ..."

The night has its advantages no doubt, i.e. we can follow a thought without being disturbed and you can write your wondrous poems too ... we can slow down, we are not meant to hurry to and fro, ahhhh ... but if dawn did not enter the scene we would crave it, because we dance to the rhythms of nature and for our balance we need both the shadows and the light.

Dear Charlie, thank you for your poetic breeze.

Love,
Margherita
