LONESOME

No one knows the feeling until it comes inside
And though you might seem happy, it sits there by your side
It’s something people would not know unless you were to say
It’s something that can break your heart if it were left to stay

Some people think it’s normal, they know no different way
They do not realize what exists and could be theirs each day
They rarely intermingle or share what’s in their heart
They slowly fall in loneliness that pulls their world apart

It’s something that so many know, which leads them down a path
That’s filled with such devouring ways that builds an aftermath
And then might come depression and world that’s not so nice
A door that’s closed to happiness; now none should pay that price

They're filled with such confusion, with some days hard to cope
But people they need people and dreams that give them hope
So take a hand and feel the warmth of friendship and of care
For everyone upon this earth is blessed by what is there

Take a chance and give a smile and tell the lonesome side to leave
Venture out and have a go and in yourself believe
Find what waits, then smile and laugh as many others do
Then loneliness will leave your life and friends will come to you

Happiness is waiting, with love and special thoughts
Loneliness sits lingering and lives on pain of sorts
So brave the day and brave the voice to say hello and speak
For that is when the lonesome heart, a better path will seek

And happiness will fill your days and friends will fill your heart
Loneliness will be dismissed and better times will start
Each day will shine and flowers grow, your time will seem a gift
And all that lies in front to block with goodness seems to shift

------------------------------------------

Loneliness is so sad in condition
Unhappy we are, when in that position
So kick up your heals and open your heart
Then all that is hurting, will simply depart

Wonderful and wise write, dear Rick. I agree totally with you. It's strange sometimes we long to be alone, but true loneliness is a tremendous state to be in. I think there are many lonesome people around, especially elderly people, and if they don't open up themselves, we really ought to help them and show that we care and induce them to communicate.

Thank you dear Rick for this poem, it should hang in the churches at the entrance, in hospitals and sent to people like a sort of circular letter.

Love,
Margherita

strongly concur...reminds me of General Booth of Salvation Army fame who could not make the attendance at a large convention and sent a telegram to the host of congregants that portrayed his philosophy.  It had only one word..."Others"  You have pointed your reader into doing...for others.  Thank you for sharing.

"people they need people and dreams that give them hope" -- great line

Rick,

You write well of the meaning of loniness, and also taking ones hand when so. So much here to digess and ponder. Great write, enjoyed it muchly...

Speechless.

If every day is blessed, why do I feel so depressed.

Rick, that is such a great poem, written as only you could write it. Take a bow my friend and keep writing poems like that.

Rick,

Your poetry uplifts me so often.  It always seems to hold a positive message that I can carry with me through my day.  This is one like that.  I come and read sometimes when the lonely feeling brushes me and I find comfort in the words and thoughts.  I found it today right here.

I feel this so much, I am the lonesome you speak of. But I am trying..always, to find a way out of it.
