"She's now on thirty different meds." Then neither of us spoke. "Twenty-nine of g'damned drugs! and none of them would work..." I couldn't think of one blessing that would make his heart unbroke. "She started chemotherapy." He offered this, like that was hope. "Maybe that will help," I said. "We both know it won't." I heard his lighter click the time as he inhaled his tears in smoke. "We'll see you soon. We're coming home-- but now? I wanna watch my show." I told him that I couldn't wait, that I would pray and do good work... Silence once again, and then a warning to expect the worst: "Hide your eyes," he weary-spoke, "without me? You would not know her. She's changed--she doesn't look the same, she's..." dying? but he coughed and cursed. "I love you" I said to the phone, too late, for he was all alone related by the drone-dial tone in echoes ohhhhhhhhs sustained the moan. * * * "Oh my..." I said. I shut the phone ducking the shadow overhead; the wings of circlings of dread: It shivers me my bones. * * * |

"I heard his lighter click the time as he inhaled his tears in smoke." ...what a powerful line...absolutely love some of your word constructions in this--so descriptive and so filled with meanings made clearer by your craftsmanship |

I tried to highlight a couple of lines but somehow pasted code? blonde moment, I guess... *sigh* But no matter... for this is heart-wrenching excellence, beginning to end. |

Karen...I know the feeling of helplessness, you are a kind lady for caring for them. My prayers go out to them and you...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Frozen in utter, awkward despair, Speechless, I then fumbled in my mind, For an imaginary key to that locked door. All I could offer him, Were vain promises of my superstitious musings, To a powerful, caring being, That I knew would take no action here. Later I wondered… Why death felt the need… To so cruelly flirt with us. |

VB? You should post that. They'll be home, for Christmas...and I promised my friend that I'd dust off a certain chair on wheels so she won't feel lonesome in hers at the parades. (I'll do it for her, gods willing.) Assuming the best... Thank you all for reading. |
