my ears wince
as another flake falls
creating an echo
in the silence that is snow

it mocks-
rain, tragically frozen
there is no peace
in this kind of cold

only a wistful wish
for the place I call home
(and there is, no place like home)

he sent me pictures
to make me smile
reminders of
what I love most
(it rarely snows, on the North coast)

I can’t help but let the tears fall
it has been too cold
for too long

patience, I tell myself
winter won’t last forever

I feel this kind of cold even in Florida.

for warmth.

ms suesea...

sitting here in my lawn chair..wearing a thong (does that make you hurl?)on my left foot and a cowboy boot on my right (in case some tourist walks in on me and I need to kick some butt) sipping some jack and coke at and smoking a cigar.  I have the freezer door open to help keep the sweat drizzle off of the windows that overlook the sunbathed beach here at Rincon..had to shave the poodle again so she would not get too warm...damn I wish this snow flack I glued on the window was real..could use some ice for my cocktail...

Yo dear SEA,

In the northern mind, winter does last forever.

Winter defines us, and dictates everything we do.

"patience, I tell myself

I think of this too. But um, it's more metaphorical in my case.

interesting, having moved away from the snowy North to the snow-less South, I never thought how much nicer the snow would be without the winter--until I read this beautiful work

Living north of the 49th parallel, as I do,  there are some winters that DO seem to last forever!!! lol

Thankfully, I'm part snow bunny! lol

Lovely penning, Susan! I have missed your wonderful poetry!

Winter has just started my dear friend. And, I for one hate the cold. It lasts way too long for me.

When winter enters the heart, nature's winter doubles the melancholy. But ohh, my own longing is for snow, to receive with a joyful heart ... everything we perceive depends on that "inner weather".

Beautiful work, dear SEA.

On the natural side I would love to see some flakes cover my beach however on the emotional side ( that darn "E" word ) well, I hope you find the inner warmth.  Some good references in this one.

But there is nothing like a snowy day to bring people closer together and inside to warm themselves by a fire~~

Wow- its a beautiful poem with emotion and beautiful imagery!
I love the winter when it snows cause where I live in Cali, it never does snow but it gets insanely cold and where I lived in Italy it didn't snow either.
I love the summer though!

Living up here in eastern Canada I sure can relate.

Lovely word arrangement to stimulate the feelings of oh so cold from those angles.

thank you all very much for reading and replying
DS you know how to rub it in, don't you

home for me is NorCal and I miss it every single day,. let's just say I'm not home, yet. I don't like snow. It used to be so magical to me(because it rarely happened!). Now? it's a mess that just reminds me I am too far from home.

I looked out at the snowflakes falling and wished I was sipping Jack and Coke and smoking a cigar.  Know what I mean?  Also, I was thinking how much I liked this poem.

I searched and searched just so I could find a poem of yours so I could read you once more. How have you been?! It's been ages since I've been on here and I'm glad I was here to read this poem.

"patience, I tell myself
winter won’t last forever"

beautiful.

It was wonderful to hear from you

Bill thank you, I'm glad it's pretty there. I can look at it and still think it's pretty but it doesn't wow me when I have to shovel it. Or drive in it...

well written!

The following line certainly 'sums up' conditions
here in the 'endless' mountains of PA:

"there is no peace
in this kind of cold"

applause for this 'penning'!

I enjoyed this immensely, Susan.
Happy holidays to you dear, and a wonderful new year...may you be at 'home' wherever you are.

Susan, as I sit here in Arkansas this morning, it is 10 degrees. We only have space heaters. The water is frozen. And I am shaking my head at myself.

Winter seems to last forever. I know.

Love you lots!

SEA - As long as I am able to write, and don't find my mind too cloudy, I will be here

Speaking of snow, here in Calgary, it's about -25 Celsius, with enough snow to make you wish it wasn't going to be a white Christmas.
