In the space of breath, my life was altered. So much I'd believed was shown to be lies Leaving no choice but change my perception Of what I am, mistakes and successes. I'd only seen worthless through well-trained eyes When I glanced into mirror's reflection. There is siren's comfort in familiar Blame beckons once more like slippers well-worn As fears spring forth again, striking to bone. Immense conscious effort is required to Resist impulse to curl into forlorn And for sins that weren't mine, attempt atone. But then thoughts of you restore my courage And I gladly embrace this second chance. Thumbing my nose at a past not quite purged I rise, sashay shyly across the floor, And though my movements are not yet a dance I sway to music no longer a dirge. |

You go girl. There is always a song to dance to ... it's just the musicians that change the pace. Well done and nice to see the positive coming out. |

The poem is excellent in every way, for a start - art, content and originality! Introspection is always good, as long as it moves one forward, as this beautiful poem does. I love it, Ruth. - Owl |

And if anyone deserves to sway to a music not quite a dirge it is you. Wonderful poem. It's good to see you posting. |

Yes! Well done, Laura, well done. I'm not sure which I love more, the sense of strength and hope in this, or the inviting way you've written it. Life's never fair, but with the spirit you show here, it's good. I'm glad I read this one. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

I think I put my own spin on this, but that is what makes for good poetry. I see a woman doing something that is new to her once again in this and I say, "You Go Girl!" |
