Could You Stay Awhile
By Paul Wilson

You came to see me today
which caught me by surprise
We gently hugged and smiled
and tears fell from my eyes

Could you stay awhile with me
revisit happy times from the past
I miss those days of long ago
oh how I wish they could last

You’ve got your life and much to do
in this fast paced world
My life is fairly simple most the time
remembering when you were my little girl

It’s been so long since my heart smiled
a life time of loneliness you know
We spoke a time or two on the phone
but never letting our true feelings show

Have we had our last chance
at starting over again
Will our fate be sealed like clouds
drifting aimlessly apart on the wind

I once wrote of hope and special times
my heart calls your name each day
I pray that everything will be fine
as your memory slowly fades away

Could you stay awhile longer I ask
as you stand up to say goodbye
Sorry I wish I could you say
I catch you wiping a tear from your eye

You say you have to go
but promise to come back again
We hug and you slowly walk away
as my tears fall you leave once again

~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~
Paul

Reminds me of the song "cats in the cradle"
people have their own lives and sometimes are just too busy to stay

This one is warm and lonesome at the same time.  Well done.

Oh, dear Paul, how heartwrenching this is. I feel the tremendous melancholy in this and I shed tears with you.

Wonderfully intense!

May she come back soon!

Love and warm hugs.
