DISCIPLINE What is wrong with the world today That society is so riddled with strife, With rape and murder, bashings and theft, It’s becoming a hazardous way of life. As moral fibre of society disintegrates, It’s becoming a harder battle to win, It seems the only way to right the wrongs Is to bring back strict discipline. I went to school in those depression years, Mischevious, though never a dunce, I remember when my father spoke to me, He spoke to me only once. So that I wouldn’t hasten his wrath I immediately done as was told, I was raised in a family that was loving and kind, An environment more precious than gold. While in the school room every day The teacher had strict defenses, Should your conduct be lacking in grace You suffered the consequences. Nearly every teacher had a strap And nearly all were ready to use it, If you were unwilling to abide by the rules, Peace of mind, you were liable to loose it. You’ve all had experience with unruly kids, Who on your furniture they continue to trample They not only need discipline to show them what’s right, They need to be shown by example. Graffiti and vandalism was nearly unknown And your car there was no need to lock, Your house was as safe as a vault in a bank, Oh, if we could only turn back the clock. Today a lot of parents are losing control, For on chastisement most seem to frown, Children run riot and do as they please, Makes me wonder just who is the clown. If human conduct continues it’s spiral downhill, I just shudder to think what might is in store, It’s not hard to see what the outcome will be When discipline flies out the door. |

Hi Lindsay, I am sure we are all a little too loving to our kids at times and let them get away with too much, we all want our children to have a better life than what we did hey. The trouble is without disipline in the early years, things start to backfire and make you shake your head in disbelief. It is a very wise write that you have penned Lindsay, as parents all we can do is our best, enjoyed my friend, take care and be well. Rick |

quote: That's the key sentence, dear Lindsay. I understand your outpour of concern. Discipline is very important and LOVE is essential. We all need to awaken to Love. That's when we really become aware of being ONE and when we act towards others the way we wish that others act towards us. Thank you for this thought provoking piece, presented in your usual beautiful form. Love, Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

I always enjoy reading your thoughts, observations and perspectives on anything ~ and everything. With change, comes some good things! ~ and some not so good things. You shine a light on the latter. Fine writing! Love 'n hugs, Linda |

I remember when the house was safe and you didn't have to lock the door. I think those times are gone forever for exactly the reasons you stated. Ida |

Yo LindsayP, Cut me some slack here. I've never been to Victoria, but I've been to Melbourne, and the little town of Altoona, outside of Melbourne. I was there doing some engineering consulting work. I locked myself out of my car there, and had to break into it without doing damage to it, as it was a rental car. Some local kids were watching me as I broke into the thing--they said "That's incredible." Of course that was in my younger days, about fifteen years ago, when I was only 57 years young. I learned to break into cars in Altoona, PA when I was about the age of those Australian kids watching me. Things haven't gone to the dogs Lindsay. Things, life in general, and the kids improve each shining hour. Bobby |

I agree! They do need to bring back strict disipline. I was sitting here last night with the news on, when they told on the news about how many gang members are right here in my city. Then, I thought about the fact, that I have to come home after dark from work on the weekends. I work every weekend. It's very scarey. Fortunately, my neighborhood seems to be real quiet most of the time. |

There should always be options that preclude corporal punishment, especially for the younger ones. But I do agree, there seems to be rampant lack of respect and discipline and almost no accountability until it's too late. Had to chuckle at Bobby's reply. I once was locked out of my car, instead of calling the locksmith, I walked around the corner where a 'friendly' gangster type lived, and enlisted his help. No broken glass, no scratches on the door either. When he was done, he said "You owe me a beer, m'am" I bought him a six pack! |

Ah Bobby, now I know the reason why the crime rate went up in the mid nineties out around Altona, but seeing you are not a bad bloke, I won't tell anyone. I know there are a lot of good kids in society today but there is an alarming number of vandals, thieves and graffiti artists that cause an enormous amount of trouble. Your comments always appreciated. Dear Roniece, I know you are too nice of person to have got into any trouble when you were a teenager but i'm afraid they are not all like you, Thanks for responding. Thank you Rose for your comments, I'm glad you live in a reasonably quiet area and I certainly hope that you have a trouble free life and can enjoy the job that you do. Dear Midnightsun, I'M sure most gangster types would come to the aid of a lovely lady like yourself, for they do have some endearing features, or I think most of them would have. Thanks for the response. |
