Cold eyes of reality
stare from ancient, dark corners
as secrets, buried deep,
bubble to the surface.
Optimism shudders
in the face of destiny.
A handful of gold dust
runs through the fingers.
Ashes to ashes,
dust to dust.

Ida,

I think you have looked into my last few weeks and wrote about it.  Thank you.

I'm sorry that things are not good for you, Alison. Hope things improve. A lot of people are having problems now. Actually this is about the state of the country and the economy at the present time (and the future) I think.

It is difficult to be optimistic during
times such as these. May the ashes return
to gold dust.

This is a brilliant piece of writing, dear
Ida!~ and painfully true.

I kind of got caught on the line about secrets - I am much better now, thank you.  Just have to work for change - in all aspects of our lives.  I keep telling myself not to be so damn afraid of change.

A perfect title for this little gem, in meaning and depth, dear Ida!

Another reminder that it is high time to change.

'Optimism' ... what's that (an 'extinct species' perhaps)?!

The hardest thing for me has been the surrender of 'idealism' mid the "Runaway American Dream"
How do I explain to my son, John that 'democracy' has devolved into something quite corrupt and
sinister compared to the original intent of his ancestor, John (and Thomas J. and the other 'founding
revolutionaries' from the old world social order)

It has been said that "the worst 'death' is the loss of all hope!" ... Unfortunately, I truly understand
that expression now!

MUCH applause for this effective 'penning'!
