The darkness of our passions-
Like stormcloud covered skies-
Mask all hope of happiness-
A tapestry of lies…

Pain can be so bitter-
Or addictive in it’s turn,
While ones dreams oft turn to nightmares
With their agonizing burn.

Can a loser change his fortune?
Can an introvert unfold?
Can the coward change his colors?
A craven become bold?

Can the lost one find a haven?
Or the vagabond a home?
The choice is up to you, friend-
Embrace life, or die alone.

*smile* sometimes it isn't that easy...or that black and white.

But you sure are convincing...

Sounds like a ballad that could be set to music...do you write music?  Hope to hear this sung at the Grand Old Opry because it has such a great message.

Thanks for sharing your work!

But sing a song of lonesome
and whistle up a storm
there’s nothing here to hold me
and the night is safe and warm

Somewhere the cattle gather
in the rising of the moon
somewhere a coyote hollers
and I miss that outlaw tune

You can love this noisy city
and tell me that I’m blind
but I’d take that trail tomorrow
and leave you all behind

if my feet could only ramble
the way they did in youth
if these old bones could stand the gamble
I’d be gone, and that’s the truth.

This would make a good country western song. Maybe you have something here.
