. You know . . . I don’t feel Like turning The life You gave up At twenty-two Into a joke Or a metaphor Just right now I remember Your eyes As their light So absolutely Disappeared Though Of course I hope With all my heart That you Are finally free Still As so often these days . . . I visit the graves Of friends I’ve lost So many over time Of those like you Who simply Were too good Though I suppose Looking back Considering After all The ultimate truth Of that noble theme It gives New meaning However demeaning To those special words That you can’t Keep a good man Down . |
