Mr. B.

Nut brown was the color of your skin
that autumn day
after a full summer sun
had kissed you often, and deeply;
it was not a day discernible
by any meteorological difference,
because it was just another
California day – feeling like any other lazy day…

And your eyes were caramel brown
squinting as you were, ‘neath the force
of that full and indolent autumn sun,
setting golden and intimately warm
crossing against that sky so clearly blue it nearly
deafened ones’ senses ~ skies that only
the coastline can produce…

And your hair was chocolate brown
with streaking, running, golden highlights,
shining like some solid liquid shines,
smooth and clean, while the wind played with it,
tousling it gently.

I traced your initials in the light brown sand
beneath soughing pines, just to somehow
pull you closer to me, my own, private, loveable
Mr. B.

I am feeling warm and fuzzy now *sigh*

What a beautiful memory, Karilea, and so very well expressed!

I call my middle son "Mr. B" (his name is Byron) but I can't now remember when or why I started calling him that.  Maybe they are special people, yes?

Warm memories such as these, can be as vivid even 40 years after their making.

~ a lovely sharing of your warm remembrance.

Such a very vivid and special memory.
Thank you for sharing it here...
for it could have happened to any one of us..
perhaps in a similar way.

*Smiling at you once again dear Karilea*

Such wonderful comments...thank you, friends,
for coming in. Actually, you can guess the gentle young man's last name from the poem itself. Common enough, was that puppy love.

Later found out he continued to be as indolent as the days themselves. Probably best I moved on...but memories do have a way of sneaking back to us in the oddest of hours.

Thanks, m'friends.

An odd thing is happening here at Pip as our memories spark memories of similarity...

I had a Mr. B, too.

Now is this weird or what?  I decided you were writing about a beautiful old oak tree, and I just loved how you gave it such character   but if it is a memory it sure is a good one that's for sure.  Still...I love the tree theory myself, Mr. B could after all be a birch, of not a oak?

Janette, thank you for your eyes...

Serenity, when have you not known some or all of us to be a little bit odd? That, my dear, is why you and I know that we are all in some ways, related.

Lindsay, I always appreciate your comments, and the hugs of you. Thank you, Sir.

Mys, my friend, now I can see the tree, too! It is always amazing how our words might relay one image or another, and I thank you for sharing yours with all of us!
