Choose to Dare

Despite your brilliant disguise
in spite of  morning dew that falls from your eyes
unrequited, the mask fell from your face.
Choose to dare, he murmured, while his lips
stroked your neck.

Still the feeling remained, a persistent virus
only he had the cure, but you resisted
hoping it was a fog that had not yet melted.

In his hands, your askance he held
In his heart, your past he pushed aside
In his life, he held your future.

You
held his eyes in your own
hoping the night would blink
but it could not.

Put aside those who failed to devote you
You have only a single path to happiness
Embrace the love that is offered
  without a moment’s reservation
Into embrace, he pulled you close
  until you shivered no more
and you finally listened to his heart
telling you
to choose to dare.
