Listening to every heart

The Pearl

Six years ago, the Ruby of the Pearl
passed away; paternal sisters, born 1912,
different as night and day;
one would never know they were twins.

Ruby was the vigilant, vibrant, colorful child;
Pearl the quiet, dependent, resourceful girl.
One bent life; one let life bend her.

True Rubies are the color of love; radiating
warmth and vitality.
True Pearls are fingerprints; giving a glow, a
mirror-shine, inner light.
A most natural gift, totally genuine,
they can be forced into an unnatural shape.

And these were the sisters; the Ruby giving life;
the Pearl giving culture.

The Ruby was talkative, forbearing, life-flowing;
The Pearl was reticent, natural, giving and forgiving.
Both had their place.

The Ruby went before the Pearl. None of us thought
the Pearl would live long after, so dependent she seemed;
but she fooled the lot of us. Her nacre was stronger
than we had supposed.

We laid the Pearl to rest today. Her quiet nature; her blessed
promises still quiet within her own heart that no longer beats.
Maybe too quiet; she never complained; she never bleated out
wrongdoings; she just was.

And she will always remain in our hearts.

This reminded me of my parents. My father seemed like the strong one and my mother the "bendable" one but she outlived him by 29 years. Guess you never know. Sorry to hear about your "Pearl."

How beautifully you speak of the Pearl and the Ruby, your love shines through. There is such warmth in your words.

In a moment of silence here, whispering condolences. What a beautiful eulogy tribute.

With great grace and warmth....you have
written well of two souls that have touched
you...and now us as well.

Tears, Karilea for the passing, but upholding, of such perfect asymmetry and symbiosis that you honoured so graciously in compassionate understanding and that you wove so artistically and brilliantly into such delicate but powerful beauty in your inimitable way.  In the years to come, I may forget the poem, but I will carry forever with me that little glow in a special part of my soul of the enrichment you (and they, through you) gifted to us in this poem today.

Karilea, you now have one more angel in heaven looking over you...

Ruby has her Pearl with her once again! God bless you all.

A loving ~ and lovely ~ poem of grace.

Thank all of you for looking in; Pearl didn't speak much, but when she did, she spoke wisdom!
