looking at paintings on walls in rooms
of some stranger's collections
with that contemplative gaze
wishing for mirrors again instead

but you seem to read my short story expression
with the braille of your finger tips
and press a smile over my eyes
and pat it down like cellophane

with your lingering discussions
about the pathway to heaven existing
even closer than one would imagine
beyond the silver ball and chain

that does not a prison make likely
and then there are the mirrors again
and you playing with couch backs
while asking if your legs are too long

for the nail polish you are wearing
