The Union Army has finally arrived Hide under my petticoats little one Momma will keep you safe Bury the silver and free all the horses Nevermind the clothes on the line Find the few men that are left The old and infirmed will fight the battle Their feeble attempt marked in history They'll burn the corn crib They'll burn the barn They'll sip muscadine wine out of Grandmothers crystal They'll break this Southern heart [This message has been edited by TinaTrivett (09-11-2008 10:47 AM).] |

That is exactly what happened. I was there. LOL Seriously, your words painted a very descriptive visual in so few words and it added the emotional impact as well. Very well done and I much enjoyed. |

I am not an American but I hope I can be forgiven for adding to what is essentially an American thread. My studies of mid nineteenth century American history show me that, even now, the Civil War is still awake in the minds of many Americans. This poem, though written in a very tender way, illustrates that perfectly. |

My mother's grandmother was a child during the Civil war (about 8) but aparently remembered it well. I never knew her except from the stories she passed on through my mother, many about the war. This reminds me so much of those stories. Excellent writing. Ida |

You write well of an era for which I hold very close. Enjoyed this, and welcome home! It's been quite a while since we've last enjoyed your words. |
