Paid Off I took out a long term lease On a short term love I signed it without reading The fine print, up above. I thought the contract, binding But, she broke it, you see Because I didn’t make the payments And, she lost interest in me. We thought it was what we wanted When, we first opened love's door Thought, the installments would be easy But, it cost our love, and more. I’m making payments on heartache And, lost dreams of yesterday Not much, to show for a lifetime And, all those bills, I’ve yet to pay. I love this poem! I like how you used the parallel between love and a "lease." It is so often true that after love ends we are left paying the price a.k.a the pain and thinking about it constantly. |

I like the bittersweet quality in this. However, we sometimes make sometimes up for the losses by the windfalls wu find along the path . . . Do not go gentle into that good night. |
