High Ground All around me there is some serious griping troubled souls in need of well-meant hyping, sometimes it can really get me down, that's when I head for the high ground. Some get a kick out of dishing despair, then act as if they have never cared; so the only way I can turn it around, is when I head for the higher ground. I care not for gossip or righteous stories, for in such vain things there is no glory, and nay, I have never worn a crown, but simply step up, toward high ground. I could follow a simpler road, I could lie, and treat people cold, but all of that would bring me down, when I'd rather head for that higher ground. and I'd really rather not get stuck in useless misery and self-made luck, no, in someone's muck I'll not lie down, Lord, lift my feet toward high ground. Perhaps it's a road less traveled on, but my real friends know I'm never gone, for they're with me, standing all around, when we travel toward high ground. ©KRJ 19 December 1999 Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Very wise, dear Karilea, and of course very beautifully written. To move up and out into our higher self/high ground is no doubt the best way to cope. Love and hugs. Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

Karilea Up to your usual standard, and with a very wise messsage. We should all try to lift ourselves above gratuitous slurs and vain posturing. I truly hope that the discussion in the Alley hasn't upset you as much as it seems to have done from this poem. I valued you contribution immensely and I don't believe you wasted your time. I suppose in a way I was trying to follow the principle set out in your poem, to lift the level of the debate in the Alley above the rather low level it had sunk to with short insulting posts. I shall continue to try to do that even in the face of the emotions caused by what I think is potentially one of the most serious political mistakes of our time. Anyway I really just came to say, nice poem, nice sentiment, and thanks M |

I like this. That's all. No fancy critique - just that it is written well and I appreciate the straightforward morality. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Dylan Thomas |

I was called here this early Saturday morning...Now I know why. How I needed to read this wonderful writing and timely reminder in my own life. I won't bore you with all of the details, but suffice it to say your writing will be at the forefront of my mind when we have our Monday morning meeting at work. Thanks so much, Karilea. Patricia |

Always take the high road, as your poetry does. It rises high, with a down to earth wholesomeness and wisdom. Very nice. |
