Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

“I am so curious about what your Arctic sky must look like.  Can you view the stars in your daytime winter sky - maybe there is not enough daylight in winter to obscure the moon and stars?

---

Arctic Sky

Winter sky paints midnight black
as stars shine amid aurora dancing.
Dark envelops, offering a blanket,
to those who long to remain in bed
until daylight returns

Stars sparkle, welcome today
and invites afternoon to dip
into eternal darkness of the north.
The stars beckon all to return to homes
warmed by woodstoves.

And winter sky shines on from dusk ‘til noon
leaving two hours of gray light,
     some call daylight.

Spring sky paints in shades of water color pink,
varieties of coral laced with conch shell soft.
Day shines from morn until evening dusk.
Garish sunrises flood the waking horizon
in colors of scarlet, orange and yellow.

Birds sing praise for longer days
mocking those who lie a-bed.

Sky of summer swoops in with diva drama.
Its aria is unending, washed in shades of blue,
framing the ever-shining sunlight.
Flowers bloom in colorful array of chaos.
Bluebells edge out the purple Iris
until pink Fireweed sway under the midnight sun.
Beavers swim in the slough, teasing dogs
on river banks all hours of day and night
(but even teasing beavers must sleep
        sometime).

Autumn nips at trembling leaves while sunsets
wash the sky in vivid shades of purple gold.
Frost patterns decorate with intricate designs
and black conceals the cold fingers, creating.
Stars, again, flirt with the aurora

and promises to spend day and night dancing
     together.

I just went on the pip to see what was there,
and what did I find????
Thank yo!
for the paint brush of your words!
I'm going to copy it on to my portable 'puter so that I can look at it while doing tedious routine errands today.

a most fine 'write!'

I am particularly fond of the ending:

"Autumn nips at trembling leaves while sunsets
wash the sky in vivid shades of purple gold.
Frost patterns decorate with intricate designs
and black conceals the cold fingers, creating.
Stars, again, flirt with the aurora

and promises to spend day and night dancing
     together."

WOW! I read this before, somehow didn't reply.
Suffice it to say, I KNOW the Arctic skies, and you've done such a beautiful job of painting them. Take a bow, poet!

Ali this is absolutely gorgeous, and I do
believe it's my favorite of everything I've
read of yours (and I've read everything
you've posted anywhere in the last several
years!)  You've grown so much as a poet,
and I'm loving seeing you do it

Sunshine,

Thank you.  I had forgotten about this.  Jaime and I had been talking on Instant Messenger and he made me want to try to explain the sky - I am still happy that this poem brought him pleasure.

He's always been very special to me and I am happy that you enjoyed this poem this was for him.

It's amazing that we forget the little instances that brought joy to others. Jaime is a friend of mine as well...and it is good to see that he garners goodness around him.
