BY THE RULES

Searching for the words
To express just how I feel;
But there is nothing left to say,
No more to reveal.

I don't know where I'm headed,
Where my path may go,
Guess I don't give a damn,
Don't really want to know.

I can see no end
To the loneliness
Or anyone to fill the void
Of the emptiness.

Moments stolen from the day,
The parting in the night,
A goodnight kiss before you leave
Doesn't always "feel so right".

"To have loved and lost."
May be a nice saying,
But it's not worth the price
That we end up paying.

The pain and hurt and heartache,
The sadness and the sorrow,
Knowing as you leave me
I won't see you till tomorrow.

Then maybe only for an hour,
If I'm lucky, two or three,
But anymore, my darling,
That's not enough for me.

I want you near me always,
Forever by my side,
To share a life together
Filled with love and pride.

But I guess I know the answer,
You've told me in your way
And I can't accept the fact
That you'll just leave someday.

I plan to win this time;
By the rules "all's fair",
You can ask me to desist
And I will, because I care.

But if you might be interested
In someone such as me,
We will be together,
Just you wait and see.
