It's easy to raise an eyebrow at the bitterness of the boy, now a man. It was high school after all, weren't the cliques and the shuns and the teasing expected? But we were not the ones left out.We were not the ones teased. While we may not have been the shunners, we were not the inviters. While we only teased each other, in that we left others out. Only while planning the reunion, do we realize the impact we had. Only now when we are being shunned by the boy, do we understand. |

Thank you all! Yes Arctic Wind, high school reunion. Those of us planning the reunion were lucky. It's not that we were in the "popular" clique, but we seemed to be able to move between them all. Others weren't so lucky and it's understandable why they have no desire to look back. One of my fellow planners summed up high school nicely: 'you're put into hundreds of awkward social situations daily without the tools or the experience to know how to handle them'. Hmmm...think I'll go read some of the teen's poems -- but they might have me resigning from the planning committee! |
