They say I was a cute baby
but I was born fat
and nothing I did growing up
ever changed that

So ate to be happy
And I ate when I was mad
And by the time I was teen
my self-esteem was real bad

Now I’ve been addict
for most of my life,
first it was food...
then I bought a knife.

That wasn't any better
so then I tried drugs
and I went to prison
like one of them thugs

In prison I got clean
But got addicted to men
Who used and abused me
Again and again

I finally broke free
from an abusive man
I’d rather be lonely
Than someone’s garbage can

I tried all kinds of tricks
Diet pills, and starvation
But nothing ever worked
Til my latest revelation

I been to the doctor
He’s been watching my weight
Getting me ready
For a life I won’t hate

I’ve got bad arthritis
And knees that don’t last
But soon my surgery
will make that a thing of the past

I worked up the courage
to seek out gastric bypass
The date is now set
to reduce this body mass

I’m not doing it to be skinny
Although that’s a nice perk
I’m doing it to get healthy
And maybe go back to work

I can’t work at all now
Can’t sit and can’t stand
Filter in my high blood pressure
And my under-active thyroid gland

But the future’s looking up
I’m gonna lose the weight
Protein shakes aren’t appetizing
But soon I’m gonna feel great

I’m gonna be able to walk
Or take stroll along the beach
I’m going be able to work
Gosh, nothing's gonna be out of my reach

I love the "Can-Do" attitude in your writing, along with the honest reflection. Best wishes to you!

With such positive affirmations and conviction you are going to be stellar!  Good luck if this is based on true fact.  If not, it's great advise for anyone dealing with personal esteem issues, as nothing can help better than a doctor/patient relationship, and that is great advise.

As I sat reading this rhyme
A tear rolled down my chin
But if you take one day at a time
This battle you will win

This is not a prediction
I am simply stating fact
For by facing up to your addiction
You are now on the right track

Yes, some days will be tougher
But to give up would be a mistake
For this is the pain you must suffer
If you want to lose the weight

Alternative solutions you sought to find
So I’m not surprised you turned to drugs
But abusive men try to control the mind
What you need Lynn is Love

Your target is within your reach
But you must stick to the plan
And one day you’ll walk down that beach
With your own special man ...

Ok Lynn

You may have noticed something when surfing this wonderful board, (No, not me skulking in the corner ....) occasionally the gauntlet gets thrown down , or challenges issued if you prefer. So I got one for you... I know it will not be easy & you WILL have the odd faux pas, but next time you feel the urge to snack, get out your pen & paper and try and write something to post on here to occupy your thoughts. You have an amazing talent for writing & have found a good forum for it.. the 2nd part of your challenge is this: A year to the day after you have the surgery, you got to post a pic of the 'New' you up beside your name.... I have every confidence you will suceed in your goal to lose the weight Lynn & I am behind you 100%, Go Girl !

Cheers

John

Tough write and tough issue, but the new confidence in yourself is promising well and will no doubt bring positive results (whether or not this is about you, it's promising for anybody).
I am touched by John's compassionate and wise response.
Btw, me too I should get rid of kilos by renouncing sweet temptations. Just had an orange instead of a chocolate kiss ...
It's not easy no.
You are a powerful poet, wishing you well.

Positive thinking can get us through anything in life and I am certain that if this is based on your own reality that  your positive attitude will take you far.  Nicely penned

My dear girl, you've been pulled through the wringer ~ but now you're clean! It's a new day ~ and a new life for you! I can sense it in your words! A journey of a thousand miles, begins with one step! ~ and you're taking it. You have a lot of support from your fellow pipsters in this journey of yours. You are not alone. The time has come for you to be the mistress of your own ship ~ not others! I am very exited about the prospects of you living the life that you were meant to live.
You are a fabulous writer and you can emote all you want during the process! ~ Both the highs and the lows! ~ We'll listen! We'll give you support. We'll give you a shoulder when you need one! We'll give you a pat on the back when you deserve one! ~ and we'll get you a little kick in the bottom (via gentle reminders)if you need one! We're with you all the way!

A fine autobiographical poem,
Perhaps it could be fiction?
No?
Well soon it will be
Since with the change of persona
You leave that before for a happily ever after.
Not that I am a great believer in such
But I always like to think there are possibilities.

This summer I’ll stroll a beach
Perhaps I’ll see the new you.

I’ll be the one at dawn dressed in black.

thank you all for your wonderful confidence... I wish that I could say I SNACK - but I don't... in fact, I rarely eat at all.

When I was young - I snacked for every reason I could think of... but since becoming an adult - I rarely eat at all. My medication keeps the weight upon me.

But yes, I will post a pic of the NEW me, when SHE arrives... LOL
